Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Executive Director Craig Anderson announced on Monday, May 2, 2016 that the IHSA will begin an immediate search for an Assistant Executive Director position after Shaunda Brown (right) announced she will be leaving the Association.

Brown will return to work in the Special School District of St. Louis County in Town and Country, Missouri for the 2016-17 school year.

“I have come to realize that being a speech pathologist is my gift, my true passion and my calling,” said Brown, a native of Du Quoin who worked as a Speech Language Pathologist in St. Louis County from 2006 to 2014. “This has been a very difficult decision. I have enjoyed working at the IHSA alongside some excellent colleagues and have had so many opportunities to grow as an administrator and person. I feel extremely blessed to have been given an opportunity to serve the high school students of Illinois.”

Brown served as the IHSA administrator for Boys & Girls Tennis, Speech-Individual Events, Drama & Group Interpretation, Debate, Music and Cheerleading during her two years on the staff. An IHSA Cheerleading Clinician, Brown was selected to judge the inaugural IHSA Cheerleading State Finals in 2006, and each year after until joining the IHSA staff.

“We are sorry to see Shaunda go, but respect her decision and want her to be happy,” said Anderson. “She made a huge impact in a short amount of time. From continuing to advance the IHSA cheerleading efforts, to seamlessly integrating herself into the activities community, to taking on the challenge of incorporating two classes into our tennis tournament. Shaunda is a great administrator and an even better person. The silver lining is that we will still be able to work with her as a cheerleading official, where we know she will continue to make a positive impact for high school students in Illinois.”

Brown’s replacement is tentatively slated to begin on July 11, 2016. For more information on the IHSA Assistant Executive Director vacancy, click here.
