Six-Time State Champion Football Coach Dan Sharp Retires From Joliet Catholic Academy

On December 5, 2016, Dan Sharp announced his retirement as the head football coach at Joliet Catholic Academy following 20 seasons, 199 victories, and six IHSA state championships. Joliet Catholic Academy owns a state-best 13 football state championships.

Sharp concludes his career with a record of 223-69 in 24 total seasons. He started his coaching tenure at Minooka High School in 1993 and led the school to its first semifinal appearance in 1996. He returned to his alma mater, Joliet Catholic Academy, in 1997 and promptly led the school to state titles in 1999, 2000 and 2001. The Hilltoppers were state champs under Sharp again in 2003, 2004 and 2007, while also finishing second in 2009 and 2011.

Sharp played for and coached with NFHS Hall of Famer Gordie Gillespie, who returned to helped Sharp as an assistant coach in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s.
