The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) is proud to announce a partnership with PLNTF Holdings, a Planet Fitness franchisee, to become the official fitness partner of IHSA. The deal includes promoting several football rivalries and 2022-23 basketball, football and wrestling state championships.

The “IHSA Football Rivalry Series presented by Planet Fitness” initiative will include six marquee matchups throughout the fall season which will include weekly announcements on which matchups are part of the series. As part of the program, Planet Fitness will have in-venue signage, on-site activation, PA announcements, social and digital amplification and on-field presentations.

In addition, the partnership allows Planet Fitness to have in-venue signage, on-site activation and PA announcements at the following championships: Football in Champaign (11/25-11/26), Girls Basketball in Normal (3/2-3/4), Boys Basketball in Champaign (3/9-3/11) and Boys Wrestling in Champaign (2/16-2/18).

“This past summer, Planet Fitness signed up more than 3.5 million members as part of our High School Summer Pass program which enabled high school students to work out in our gyms over the course of the summer absolutely free,” said Chris Short, director of communications at PLNTF Holdings. “The program was an amazing success and our franchise alone had more than 180,000 high schoolers participate. This partnership with the IHSA is a natural extension of that program as we continue to grow the number of high school students working out at our gyms. We realize the amazing importance of high school sports on the communities in which we operate and are looking forward to a successful partnership.”

Based in Rosemont, PLNTF Holdings operates 92 Planet Fitness locations with over 40 clubs in Illinois,  making them the largest franchisee in the state. Every home game in the rivalry series is in a community in which PLNTF has a Planet Fitness location.

“The IHSA and Planet Fitness partnering together is fitting, as health and fitness have never more important for high school student-athletes,” said IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson. “We recognize that for some student-athletes, especially in the summer, Planet Fitness may be a more viable option than training at a high school or other venue. We look forward to partnering with Planet Fitness to help promote health and fitness to our member schools.”

“Above all, we feel that Planet Fitness mission to promote physical health, emotional health, and planet health aligns well with the values of the IHSA,” said Anderson.
