2015-16 IHSA Distinguished Media Service Award – Bob Sakamoto

Former Chicago Tribune prep sportswriter and long-time CLTV high school sports show host Bob Sakamoto, known as “Sako” to fans, was the face and voice of high school sports in Chicagoland for nearly 30 years.

Nominated for the IHSA Distinguished Media Service Award by Mt. Carmel High School in Chicago, Bob’s recognition ceremony occurred on Friday, September 18, 2015 when the Caravan hosted rival St. Rita High School at Chicago’s Gately Stadium.

A constant rain couldn’t dampen the mood of the pre-game festivities, as Bob was presented his plaque from Mt. Carmel principal John Stimler (above left) and Mt. Carmel head football coach rank Lenti (above right) prior to kickoff. Joined by his wife and son that evening, Bob was also interviewed live on WCIU TV, which was broadcasting the game live.
