The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) has announced that its inaugural Road Race will debut on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Heartland Community College in Normal.

The 5K race is free to all participants and will feature three divisions: the Wheelchair Division, the Boys Division, and the Girls Division, with each division open to any students who attended an IHSA member school during the 2016-17 school year (click here to sign-up).

“We think this has the makings of becoming a great annual IHSA tradition,” said IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson. “We have seen steady growth in our Athletes With Disabilities programs the past few years, especially in track & field and swimming. However, after no student-athletes entered the cross country program in 2013 and 2014, we shifted our focus to a road race. We think this will be a great participation opportunity for all students-athletes, while creating another offering for athletes with disabilities.”

The Wheelchair Division is scheduled to begin at 9:00 AM, with the Girls Division slated to follow at 9:15 AM, while the Boys Division race will cap the day with a 9:30 AM start. The race will be conducted on a course that stretches throughout the Heartland campus. An awards ceremony will follow at 10:30 a.m. Medals will be awarded to the Top 5 individual finishers in each division.

Interested participants can sign-up by clicking the Road Race link on the frontpage of www.IHSA.org or by clicking here. All competitors will be required to complete a waiver form, which must be submitted on-site on the day of the race.
