The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) conducted its first-ever Road Race on Saturday, June 3 at Heartland Community College in Normal. The event is believed to be the first 5K road race held by a state high school association.

The Road Race champions came from three different schools, as Pana High School’s Tristan Putt (above middle) won the Wheelchair Division race with a time of 24:52.6, Deer-Creek-Mackinaw High School’s Chelsea Pawlak (above right) won the Girls Division race with a time of 21:28.0, and Bloomington High School’s Nicholas Doud (above left) won the Boys Division with a time of 17:21.0.

Metamora’s Savanna Klobnak joined Putt in the Wheelchair Race, while the Girls Race featured 14 competitors from three high schools, and the Boys Race 11 participants from five schools.
