Tuscola High School football has one of the oldest and most successful traditions in the state, especially in the modern playoff era. The program ramped up in 1994 when it began an 18-year playoff streak that included five state championship game appearances, as well as state titles in 2006 and 2009.

Doug McCumber was behind the mic for many of those Warrior victories, as he served as the Tuscola PA announcer for home football games for the past 43 years. McCumber passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2017, and the Warriors found a unique way to honor the voice of their program.

When the team took the field to face visiting Warrensburg-Latham on Friday, September 29, 2017, Tuscola Athletic Director Ryan Hornaday announced to the crowd that there would be no PA announcer or announcements for the duration of the game as a way to honor McCumber’s legacy.
