As a part of the IHSA Do What’s Right! Sportsmanship Program, member school personnel and licensed IHSA officials have the ability to recognize acts of exemplary sportsmanship and integrity that occur in IHSA events throughout the school year via the Sport A Winning Attitude Report (SAWA). Those who are recognized receive a special certificate from the IHSA and select SAWAs are featured here on the IHSAState website.

The SAWA Report below on Massac County High School Softball player Jessie Douglas (pictured below) and Coach Pat Clark was submitted by an IHSA softball official:

During a play at first base in today's softball game between Massac County and Herrin there was a collision at 1st base. Both players were doing what they were supposed to be doing and all action was legal. After getting up, the runner for Massac County #10 Jessie Douglas stayed on the field to check on the opponent until #28 Haley Hunter had regained her composure and the 2 players exchanged a hug. Also Massac County Coach Pat Clark and Assistant Coach Ron George both made sure that Hunter was okay. Very classy move by the Lady Patriot softball team! The slogan "Do What's Right! Sport A Winning Attitude!" was evident in today's contest.
