Benet Academy defeated St. Francis 7-0 on Saturday at the Kaneland 3A Sectional Championship, thanks in part to four runs in the second inning. Luke Stachowiak singled, scoring one run, and Merrick Sullivan doubled, scoring three runs. A wild pitch put Benet on the board in the top of the first. Gino Zagorac earned the win for Benet Academy. The hurler surrendered one hit and zero runs over seven innings, striking out six and walking three. Nolan Galla took the loss for St. Francis. The pitcher went four innings, allowing seven runs on six hits, striking out seven and walking three. Merrick Sullivan went 2-for-4 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. The Redwings were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Dom Tomala made the most plays with seven. Colt Armbrust went 1-for-3 at the plate to lead the Spartans in hits. St. Francis didn't commit a single error in the field. Joey Gainer had the most chances in the field with nine.
