Girls Bowling Chronology

1944 IHSA sponsors first "postal" bowling tournament for girls.
1969 IHSA approves interscholastic competition in girls bowling.
1973 First IHSA girls bowling tournament held at Town and Country Bowl in Peoria.
1975 Last "postal" bowling tournament conducted; state final meet changed from a dual format to an open meet format; Dixon wins championship with a team of four boys and one girl, prompting change in IHSA by-laws prohibiting boys from playing on girls' teams.
1980 First individual competition held at state final tournament.
1993 Tournament moves to present site, Cherry Bowl Lanes in Rockford.
