Coach’s Quotes and Notes

Winning Coach: Charles Korte (Galena)
“I really didn’t have any speech planned for this event but this has been a wonderful wonderful experience for our community and our kids. The support of this community has been outstanding. This group of young gentlemen have been great. It means much more to me to have had them experience this event than it does to have gone 14-0. This summer when I sent out the letter I told them to expect to go 14-0. The kids have live up to this and made this a wonderful, wonderful day for all of us.”

“Toulon is a very good football team, they should hold their heads high and be very proud of their team. We knew coming in that when you get to a state championship team all teams are going to be competitive. Not to be bragging, but I feel that we probably are one of the best 1A teams ever to play here and Stark County gave us all we could handle.”

“Our first play for a TD we knew would be either wide open or throw it away. Last Sunday, watching the game films I knew that this play would work. This got us off to a good start and our defense was awesome today.”

Losing Coach: Gary Johnson Toulon (Stark County)
“The first play was obviously a significant play, we knew they like to throw on their first series but their play action forced our defensive back up and they were able to complete the pass. The second significant play was when we didn’t get it in from the one-yard line in the 3rd qtr. I felt the momentum switched at that time and had we gooten it in to the end zone it might have been a much different game.”

“I thought with the exception of the first play our defense played extremely well. Our punting game gave us excellent field position. They are just a very good football team. #76 (Tim Vincent) never loses sight of the ball. We were able togain a little yardage going straight ahead but anytime we had to run a play where we had to hold our blocks they were able to stop us.”

“This year has been a stroybook season, not only for the school but the whole Stark County community. This school is only 6 years old and to get here is monumental. This event is something Stark County and these kids will remember forever.”
