America's Original March Madness Quarterfinal Game 3

QUOTES AND NOTES

Winning coach: Cliff Cameron, Pleasant Plains - ``We survived. That's one good thing about this game, we get to play tomorrow. It's a great goal to have when you come to the state tournament to play on Saturday and we're one of three teams now that will do that."

``Coming into the tournament a lot of people were talking about Central Catholic being the Cinderella team with the 15-15 record and all that. They beat some good teams in the post season and certainly deserve to be here. A lot of people thought we should beat them without a lot of trouble but we're not a team to overlook opponents. They just played hard and for a brief stretch figured out some of the things we were trying to do."

``It's possible we didn't go out with the intensity and the sense of urgency that we should've had at certain points of the ballgame but I give them credit. They can't be a bad team and be in the state tournament considering some of the teams they've beaten. They hung with it. They hit shots and we feel very fortunate to win. The longer they stayed in the game the more confidence they got and the more people thought they might beat us."

``Our pressure early and then again late may have given them a little bit of trouble but they figured it out and were able to get that second pass off which allowed them some easy lay ups and penetration with the basketball. The bottom line though is we are happy, so happy to be playing tomorrow."

Losing coach: Kevin Brown, Bloomington (Central Catholic) - ``We got off to a rough start there. Their pressure bothered us quite a bit from time to time and we got ourselves where we haven't had team pressures that deep on the floor for quite a while and we struggled getting that second pass. Once we were through that second pass we were fine. Late in the game they got some second opportunities."

``We really felt we were struggling on man to man of defending the middle and they were really getting to the middle of the floor. So we ran several gimmick defenses against them which would make it tough to box out and rebound so that hurts down the stretch. We had a great opportunity at the end of the quarter."

``They're going to let them play on the last play there's no doubt about that and I thought we executed the play great and they went with Michael Lenahan and Ryan Scheets popped open on the weak side and went to the basket and we didn't get the bucket or a foul. We had a great opportunity right there to win the ball game."

``We had to extend a lot of energy down the stretch and I think the extra four minutes was very difficult on us."

``All through the stretch, all down the post season when a team's made a run on us we've come up with some great plays and kids stepping up. And that's what we've really based our team on is the fact that it doesn't matter who it is and Michael (Lenahan) hit some big shots there and we really stepped up and hit some big shots."

(Michael Lenahan on things the team did right) ``I think we totally executed well. We started to break their press easily, well not easily. We moved up the floor a little bit and got a few easy lay-ups. They were playing hard on us and we just tried to penetrate through."
