"With the conditions that existed early in the game you have to have kids step up and fill those voids. We had a couple of kids come off the bench and play very big for us. I thought we maintained our aggressiveness, especially offensively and got some transition buckets against them. We did a pretty good job on the backboards."

"We didn't do a very good job on guarding (Pierre) Pierce but we did a fine job on the other kids. We wanted to make sure the other kids didn't get any easy stuff on us and I think that was a big key in the ballgame."

(On playing against Pierce) "We actually had two plans. We were going to go with Tim Bauersachs guarding him because Tim can guard people. But when Tim got in foul trouble in the first half we had to go with Kyle (Smith) guarding him and just make sure we guarded the rest of the kids so that somebody didn't get hot."

"We wanted to limit the amount of touches Pierce got and hopefully force him to give up the ball. In some cases it worked. And other times it didn't."

"When we had to substitute in the first half, due to the early foul problems, we had the kids come off the bench and they did an excellent job. Darren (McCombs) only scored 4 points but he had 5 rebounds, which was a big help. It was important for them not to try to come in and win the game but just keep it steady. And they did that and a lot more."


Losing coach: Craig Etheridge, Westmont - ``No doubt about it, the team that played the best won the game. They executed everything they wanted to do."

"My last two years as head coach we've played some really good teams but Pinckneyville really did a good job of moving the ball, hitting the open person, cutting to the basket, sealing people inside, posting up. Fundamentally, they were better than we were. It's something I'd like my team to do, but again today, they didn't do it. Pinckneyville is very impressive."

"We can't simply let it become the Pierre Pierce show. Earlier in the year, a lot of times we let him just create and the kids just quit looking to score. They lost confidence in their shots and that happened again today. It was frustrating. We didn't play our best basketball."

"We were able to get them in foul trouble with their two best scorers on the bench and we couldn't take advantage of it. Defensively we looked like we were sleeping."
