QUOTES AND NOTES
Winning coach, Gordon Kerkman, Aurora (West)
``It's a little tough to make positive comments about that game whether you're the winning coach or the losing coach. It got a little nasty out there and I think part of it was due to the fact that you had two aggressive basketball teams going against each other. That created a lot of mayhem and a lot of turnovers. I'm not disappointed that we won, obviously, I'm just a little disappointed in the way we played. And I think these guys are too."
``We feel we're capable of playing a lot better basketball than that but I think you have to give a lot of credit to Gordon Tech because they do come after you, they bump you a little bit. They are aggressive and they keep hustling and I think because of those factors it forced us to turn the ball over a lot more than we're accustomed to. But, we hung in there and hopefully tomorrow we'll shoot the ball better from the line and take care of it better from the floor. I don't think we rebounded too poorly but I did think we didn't do a good job of taking care of the ball."
``I think the turnovers were more a combination of their aggressiveness and our carelessness. Gordon Tech played very hard and you can't take anything away from them. They got in our face and it is difficult to play against teams like that without turning the ball over but I also felt we made some foolish mistakes. I feel we're a better ball-handling team than that."
``I think whenever you get in a short tournament like this you're probably going to play one bad basketball game and at least hopefully not two. We won our game and without question it was without great performance by our kids so maybe we got the one bad one out of our system because we are going to need a good one tomorrow (Saturday)."
Losing coach, Scott Bogumil, Chicago (Gordon Tech)
``Very uncharacteristic of our team today to turn the ball over so much. West Aurora did a nice job of causing those turnovers. They're a great team, all five starters, I couldn't tell you who the best player was because they came us in waves."
``Our kids never quit when we were down so much. In that situation there is nothing to lose. You fire up the shots and sometimes they'll fall. Earlier in the game it's close. Some of those shots we took we were tight. (Michael) Lang- his extension isn't the way it usually is."
``Our game plan was to pick them up with half court pressure and extend it as the game went on. They got a little bit of a lead and we got into a little bit of foul trouble so I thought we had to extend it to get the game up tempo."
``We saw them on tape three times and they really didn't extend too much. They usually went 1-2-2 with a three-quart trap but we didn't see much of that today. We didn't expect their man to man pressure."
``We thought Austin Real was the key to their team and we had to shut him down. We felt we didn't have an answer for him. It had to be a team effort. We didn't have a one-on-one answer for Real."
``We felt we might have a little edge with our guards. When we got them into foul trouble the tempo was in our hands."
``(Derik) Hollyfield- we talked about him as a third or fourth scorer but he came up huge against us."
