Steve Raymond's father owned a newspaper, the Golden Prairie News in Assumption, Illinois, and he ultimately followed his dad into the family business. Throughout his career, he covered prep sports for over 30 years at four publications in two states. His biggest impact may have come in Effingham Country, first with the Effingham Daily News and then after he started his own publication, Effingham & Teutopolis News Report, in 2012.

Steve was honored with the IHSA Distinguished Media Service Award prior to a Teutopolis High School boys basketball game on January 9, 2024.

With numerous family and friends cheering him on from the front row of the bleachers, Steve was honored prior to tip off and used his acceptance speech to share that the day coincided with a significant milestone anniversary in his career.
