When legendary Daily Herald high school sports writer/columnist Bob Frisk retired after 50+ years at the paper in 2008, he said he had “ridden off into the sunset”. Well not exactly, as Frisk still attends three or four high school sporting events each week as a fan, but he did think his tour on the awards & recognition circuit that accompanied his retirement was long over. Thus, he said he was “absolutely stunned” when he heard in August that he had been chosen as one of the four inaugural recipients of the IHSA Distinguished Media Service Award. Frisk chose to receive his honor at the Prospect-Hersey basketball doubleheader at Prospect on January 31, 2014. Between games, he was recognized at center court and then received the plaque from his daughter, Susan, before addressing the crowd.
After the ceremony, Bob sat down with Matt Troha from the IHSA and long-time Daily Herald Sports Editor Tom Quinlan to discuss his distinguished career.
