Despite its proud tradition, many anticipated that Evanston High School’s boys’ basketball program would take a step back during the 2017-18 season after graduating several key players from last year’s team that lost to eventual Class 4A IHSA state champ Whitney Young in the Super-Sectional round.
However, the Wildkits entered their contest against Central Suburban League foe Maine South on January 26, 2018 with a 15-4 mark, thanks in part to the efforts of freshman Blake Peters. Regardless of the trajectory Peters’ career takes over the next three and half seasons, he permanently etched his name in Evanston and IHSA lore with a buzzerbeater against the Hawks that would make even Carson Frakes
tip his hat.
