Brian Achenbach of the Dispatch/Argus (
QConline.com) captured the essence of high school sports in the photo above when Sherrard and Byron met in the IHSA Class 2A Girls Basketball Super-Sectional on Monday, February 20, 2017 at Monmouth College.
With Byron leading comfortably late in the fourth quarter, Byron head coach Eric Yerly and the Tiger players allowed Sherrard standout Faith Anderson (left) to score a basket. Anderson tore her ACL in the previous game and was unable to play in the Super-Sectional despite being a big reason the Tigers had advanced that far.
Teammate Spenser Strandgard (#24) assisted Anderson on the hoop and was overcome by emotion in the moment. See video of the basket below courtesy of
