The 2020 IHSA Speech-Individual Events State Finals will be held on Friday and Saturday, February 21-22 at the Peoria Civic Center in Peoria. The 2020 state meet marks the 80th annual edition of the state final and the ninth year that the Peoria Civic Center has hosted the event.

Saturday's award performances will be streamed live on the NFHS Network via www.IHSA.tv at 6:00 p.m. with a subscription.

State champions will be crowned in 14 events over the course of the meet, including an overall team champion based upon points earned in each individual event. A top team will also be recognized in the Performance in the Round category, although that event does not earn points toward the overall team title.

Hinsdale Central returned to the top of podium in 2019, as the Red Devils program won its second state title in school history, and first since 2015. Hinsdale Central had never had a Top 10 finish in IHSA history until 2003, but has now won four trophies since 2008. Thornton High School just missed the podium in 2018 when they placed fourth, but tied for second-place a year ago to claim the school's first trophy since placing third in 2005. The Wildcats shared the second-place trophy with the Tigers of Wheaton Warrenville South. Amazingly, the WWS program has now won a trophy at six consecutive state meets, including a state championship in 2014 and five straight second-place finishes. After winning its first-ever trophy in 2018 when they were third, Belleville West slipped back one spot to fourth a year ago. Marian Catholic tied for fifth in 2019, sharing the spot with Normal UHIGH, which marked each school's return to the Top 5 for the first time since 2015 (T4th) and 2013 (1st), respectively. Neuqua Valley (7th), Fenton (T8th), Naperville North (T8th), Hinsdale South (T10th) and Prospect (T10th) rounded out the Top 10 in 2019.
