The 2019 IHSA Speech-Individual Events State Finals will be held on Friday and Saturday, February 15-16 at the Peoria Civic Center in Peoria. The 2019 state meet marks the 79th annual edition of the state final and the ninth year that the Peoria Civic Center has hosted the event.

Saturday's award performances will be streamed live on the NFHS Network via www.IHSA.tv at 5:30 p.m. with a subscription.

State champions will be crowned in 14 events over the course of the meet, including an overall team champion based upon points earned in each individual event. A top team will also be recognized in the Performance in the Round category, although that event does not earn points toward the overall team title.

The most successful program in IHSA speech history, Downers Grove South, repeated as state champions in 2018, as the back-to-back state titles lifted the Mustangs hoisted their 18th overall state title in school history. Wheaton Warrenville South continues to push to DGS as at the state level, as the Tigers placed second. Since winning the state title in 2014, WWS has placed second in each of the four seasons since. Belleville West earned its first Speech-IE trophy in school history a year ago when the team placed third. Belleville West's best previous finish and only other Top 5 performance came in 2011, when the Maroons were fourth. Perennial power Thornton hasn't brought home a state final trophy since 2006, but missed that mark by just three points in 2018 when the school finished fourth, while Prospect's fifth-place finish marked the school's third straight in the Top 5. Glenbard West (6th), Reavis (7th), Hinsdale Central (T8th), Naperville North (T8th) and Naperville Central (10th) rounded out the Top 10 in the state a year ago.
