The 2019 IHSA Girls Gymnastics State Finals will be contested on February 15-16 at Palatine High School (click here to listen to the history of PHS hosting state gymnastics).

Friday’s action will determine an individual All-Around champion and factor into the team scoring. On Saturday, individual state champions will be crowned in the Vault, Uneven Parallel Bars, Balance Beam and Floor Exercise. Friday’s prelims will determine the Top 10 competitors in each event that move on to Saturday’s finals. Team points are accumulated on Friday, but competitors can add to their team total on Saturday with a higher scoring routine.

Glenbard West’s first IHSA trophy in girls gymnastics was the big one, as the Hilltoppers prevailed as state champions in 2018 behind Maddie Diab, who was the state’s All-Around champion and also claimed top honors in the Floor Exercise. Diab returns in top form, having won Floor Exercise, Vault, and All-Around honors at Sectionals to help Glenbard West to the team title. Teammate Taylor Ramirez added her own Sectional title in the Balance Beam.

Carmel won three consecutive state titles from 2010 to 2012 and could return to the top of the podium behind its dynamic trio of Sectional champs in Isabella Kropiwiec (All-Around), Lyndsey Basara (Vault), and Clare Keane (Balance Beam).

Maine South recorded its best finish in school at last year’s state meet when the Redhawks finished fifth. The team now to vie for its first trophy behind Caleigh Pistorius (Floor Exercise, Vault) and Collette Roth (Bars), who captured a trio of Sectional titles last week.
Grace Kmak is the third All-Around Sectional champion who will competing for her team this weekend in Palatine, as the Lincoln-Way East standout hopes to help the Griffins to their third consecutive Top 10 finish and first trophy in school history.

Defending Vault state champ Madison Hickey leads DeKalb back to state and in search of a state title after helping the Barbs place second in 2016 and 2017. Hickey and Madeline Kees placed second and third, respectively, behind Glenbard West’s Diab in All-Around Sectional action.

New Trier’s Darcy Barkal, a Sectional champion on the bars, hopes to lift the Trevians back into trophy territory for the first time since 1993. Across all sports, New Trier has more total team state championships than any other school, but has yet to hoist the first-place trophy in Girls Gymnastics.

A program on the rise, Glenbrook South hadn’t won a team trophy at state since 1979 before finishing third in both 2017 and 2018. Jenna Hartley, a Floor Exercise champ, looks to lead the Titans into the top spot in 2019.

Glenbard East makes its first team state final appearance in school history this weekend, as the trio of Kali Kartheiser, Sierra Olson and Kelsey Donovan have led the Rams to a historic season.
