Dr. James J. Quaid has been at Oak Park
(Fenwick) since 1988, now serving as the school's vice
president/principal. He was elected to the IHSA Board of Directors
in 2003 as the first at-large member representing private
schools, and in October 2005 was elected secretary of the Board. From 2001 to 2003, he had served as the private
school liaison to the Board.
From 1982-88, Dr. Quaid was at Lake Forest Academy-Ferry Hall,
where he was a history teacher and then assistant dean of
students. He also coached varisty hockey, track and field
and football. In August of 1988, he became assistant dean of
students at Fenwick and coached football and track and
field. From 1989-92, Dr. Quaid was Fenwick's dean of
students and a football coach. He became the school's
associate principal for academic affairs in July of 1992 and
principal in 1993. He was named vice president in 2000.
Dr. Quaid earned his bachelor's degree in history and
philosophy from Benedictine University in 1980 and lettered three
years in football. He received his master's degree in
history from Purdue in 1982. In 1989, he earned a master's
degree in education administration and supervision from Loyola
University. He received his doctorate in educational
leadership, foundations and counseling psychology in
2000 from Loyola.
Over the years, Jim has assumed many IHSA
responsibilities. He was a member of the Strategic Planning
team in 2001, was a member of the Public/Private School
Issues Action Team from 2001-02, and chairs the Financial Aid
Criteria Committee. In addition, he has served as president
of the Interscholastic Council of Private Schools since 2000.
Dr. Quaid and his wife, Diane, are parents of four children.
