Ron Conner, principal of
Clinton High School since 1994, was elected to the IHSA Board of
Directors in 2003, representing Division 5, and won reelection in 2006. Prior to that,
Conner had served on the IHSA Legislative Commission from 2000-03. In October 2005, he was elected vice president of the Board.
Conner's involvement in IHSA
activities as a coach and administrator spans more than three
decades. He participated in football, basketball, baseball and
concert band at Decatur (Lakeview) High School. From
1971-73, Conner served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He earned his bachelor's degree in history from Eastern
Illinois University in 1975, his master's in educational
administration from the University of Illinois in 1982, and his
advanced certificate from Illinois State University in 1993.
His career in education began in 1975 at Heyworth as a teacher,
head football coach and assistant basketball coach. In 1979,
Conner returned to Lakeview as an assistant football coach.
A year later he moved to Mt. Pulaski as head baseball and head
wrestling coach and co-athletic director. From 1981-84,
Conner was a teacher and head football coach at Carlyle.
In 1984, Conner became assistant principal at DuQuoin, and held
the same position at Dunlap from 1986-89. In 1989 he was
named principal at Farmer City (Blue Ridge) and came to Clinton as
principal in 1994.
Ron and his wife, Melinda, are parents of six children.
