Boys/girls water polo Advisory Committee

The IHSA Boys/Girls Water Polo Advisory Committee met in the IHSA Office in Bloomington, Illinois, on Wednesday, May 23, 2007, beginning at 10:00 a.m.  Committee Members present were: Jim Antos, Chicago (Brother Rice); Patrick Cornfield, Buffalo Grove; Connie Rahn, Schaumburg (H.S.); Tom Musch, Aurora (Waubonsie Valley); Susan O’Sullivan, Midlothian (Bremen) and Perry Korbakis, (Official) Crestwood.  Assistant Executive Director Beth Sauser was also in attendance

TERMS AND CONDITIONS RECOMMENDATIONS:

1.   Item VI. Note 2) Sectional Warm-up time: (boys and girls)

Recommendation: If an auxiliary pool is available at a sectional site, competing teams are able to warm up after half time of the preceding game. Only swimming and passing drills maybe practiced during this warm up.

Rationale:  Clarifies sectional warm up procedure. (6-0)

 2.   Item VIII. C. Home Team: (boys and girls)

Recommendation: Teams listed on the top line…. or the team listed first…shall be considered the home team.

Rationale:  Clarification (6-0)

 3.   Item VIII. D. Balls: (boys and girls)

Recommendation:  State Final will receive five (5) boys and five (5) girls balls to use in games.

Rationale:  Clarification (6-0)

4.   Item VIII. J. Goal Judges: (boys and girls)

Recommendation: The committee recommends using IHSA licensed officials as goal judges. If a licensed IHSA official is not available, adults at least 21 years of age, are recommended.

Rationale:  Goal judges serve an important position that should be handled by an IHSA licensed official or an adult.(6-0)

Items of Administrative Recommendations:

1.   Recommendation: The committee recommends that all team photos submitted to the IHSA for program publication requires athletes to wear team warm-ups, t-shirts and shorts or school uniform. Teams submitting a photo without the required apparel will not be printed in the program.

      Rationale: Swimming apparel is not appropriate for the IHSA Water Polo souvenir program.
2.   Item XI. Officials A. 1 b: (boys and girls)

Recommendation: b) Goal judges will be paid a flat fee of $10.00 per game worked.

Rationale:  Reinsert the above wording into the terms and conditions. Goal Judges have received this fee since the inception of the tournament.  (6-0)

Items of General Discussion

1.   The committee reviewed the water polo manual as well as the sectional winners packet and recommended their continued use with appropriate up-dates made by the IHSA staff for the 2008 Boys and Girls seasons.

2.   The committee suggested that coaches use the attached individual player statistics sheet for the state final program. The stats sheet will be available through the IHSA website as a downloadable form. The committee also suggests excluding the height, weight and age categories in the boys and girls state final programs.

3.   The committee discussed the sectional host provide balls for warm ups.

4.   The committee discussed the 30 game season limitation by-law.  For regular season tournaments, the committee has requested that all host schools post the total number of games a team will play in that tournament.  This would guarantee that a team would not be over the 30 game maximum during the season.

5.   The committee discussed potential sectional sites with all deep pools.

6.   The committee requested the IHSA to obtain copies of the State Final championship games from Comcast
