IHSA Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes - 2006-07sportsmanship Advisory CommitteeApril 18, 2007 The IHSA Sportsmanship Advisory Committee met at the IHSA Office in Bloomington, Illinois, on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 beginning at 10:00 a.m. Committee members present were: Cyndi Butkovich-Harris, Warrensburg (W-Latham); Jeff Craig, Park Forest (Rich East); Jerry Farris, Flanagan; Russell Galusha, Mt. Pulaski; Patti Hie, Crystal Lake (Prairie Ridge); Sara Keene, Columbia; Therese McLaughlin, Calumet City (TF- North); John Schmitt, Pecatonica and IHSA Assistant Executive Director Beth Sauser was also in attendance. RECOMMENDATION FOR BOARD ACTION: 1. State Series Dress Code Recommendation: During the IHSA state series, fans must dress according to their high school dress code or policy. Rationale: Students are not allowed to attend school shirtless, wear full body paint or other revealing articles of clothing. Since extra curricular events are an extension of the classroom the student could still maintain decorum and integrity while cheering their team and representing their school at events. (8-0) Rejected Committee Discussion and Actions: 1. Created questions for discussion at Conference meetings in order to obtain more feedback from member schools. 2. Updated the state final sportsmanship award criteria sheet used by committee members. Teams must score 40 out of the 55 possible points to earn a state final banner. If a team does not score 40 points for a game or 2 of the members have a 1 for a game that school will not be considered for an award. (See Attachment) 4. Create updated sportsmanship announcements for member schools. Investigate if the DWR! posters are able to be enlarge and the template available online for schools to add their own pictures. 5. Updated the DWR! information for the manuals and programs. 6. John Schmitt and Patti Hie will present the Do What’s Right! program at the IADA conference . 7. Discussed the different avenues that administrators could inform their School Board, communities, parents and students of the Do What’s Right! program criteria. 8. Updated the Do What’s Right! conference and independent school from Application Forms to include the results of the sportsmanship survey from their school(s). This yearly survey would continue to help the Sportsmanship Advisory committee address the member school needs appropriately. (See Attachment) 9. Approved the updates for the Sport A Winning Attitude report criteria. (See Attachment) 10. Updated the Do What’s Right! conference presentation schedule. 11.
