Cross Country Rules MeetingsLast updated at 1:54 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2009. For 2009-10, the IHSA will be conducting an Online Rules Interpretation Meeting in this sport. Schools and officials can receive credit for the online meeting by viewing the meeting through their password-protected site.
NOTE: If you attend a traditional rules interpretation meeting, you should redeem credit in the Officials Center or Schools Center using the key you receive at the meeting. IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR CROSS COUNTRY COACHES AND TRACK & FIELD / CROSS COUNTRY OFFICIALS The IHSA now has technology that makes it possible to provide an online cross country rules interpretation meeting to coaches and officials. Cross country coaches and track & field / cross country officials will now be required to view an online cross country rules meeting this fall. This is new for the sport of cross country and we believe this experience will serve to improve the important sport of cross country in Illinois. Each school participating in cross country must log into their school center to view and receive credit for the required rules meeting. This is the same procedure currently used in many IHSA sports (including T&F last spring). We plan to have the video online from around August 12 to September 13. The online presentation will also be available online on the IHSA cross country page. However, viewing the video from this location will not result in receiving credit. While it is the same video, there is no mechanism in this location for coaches to receive credit. The video is placed in this location in an attempt to improve the knowledge of cross country athletes, parents and fans. Each official participating in cross country must log into their school center to view and receive credit for the required rules meeting. In the past if you were a licensed IHSA track & field official, you were automatically licensed as an IHSA cross country official. This will continue to be true. There will not be a separate license for cross country officials. However, those that wish to participate in the IHSA Cross Country State Series will need to view the online rules video. Doing so will place you in our new cross country data base which will be used to determine those eligible to officiate in our cross country state series. There will be no additional fees, nor will there be a cross country examination. We do believe that it is important to provide our member schools with a list of officials that have taken the time to become knowledgeable specifically with the IHSA cross country rules and procedures that will now be available online. This is consistent with our philosophy in all other sports. For instructions detailing the process for redeeming credit please go to IHSA.org and then select cross country from the drop down menu located in the upper right hand corner. At that link coaches and officials will find a link to the IHSA Cross Country Bulletin. This new bulletin will explain the rules meeting process as well as providing other important cross country information. Below is the complete, current list of traditional rules meetings (if any are scheduled). Meetings will be posted when they have been confirmed. If there are no meetings listed, there are no more traditional meetings during the current school term. If the meeting you are looking for has not yet been posted, please do not call the IHSA Office. Instead, check this page frequently for updates.
