Herrin head coach Bruce Jilek:
(On the squeeze play which scored the winning run)"It's a play of ours. If the ball goes down, the runner goes. If it goes up, she goes back. If the runner gets held up, she tries to get in a rundown until the other runners move up. We tore the cover off the ball in regionals and sectionals, but that wasn't the case today."

"The single by Reynolds was the key to the inning. That set everything up for us, and that's why she's here."

"Their pitcher had a lot of strikeouts but the bottom end of our order held us in the game for a while."

(About beating the top-ranked team in the state) "I don't know who says who's number one. When you start saying things like that, I don't know how you do that. Morris is a good team but it's hard to say who's number one. That's why we're here."

Herrin DH Amanda Reynolds:
"(Steele) is a great pitcher. I heard a lot of good things about her, and she knew how to get around us. But then we got the two runs in the eighth inning."

Herrin pitcher Rachel Murray:
"On the bus to the game, I was looking at their statistics and saw that Steele had a 0.22 ERA. So I was concerned but I knew we could get through eventually."

Morris coach Dennis Steele:
"We got beat by a better team. I don't event want to get into any one play. That (the squeeze bunt) didn't lose the game. We didn't hit the ball like they did, and that was the key."

(On squeeze bunt): "Maybe it was a loss of concentration. But to me the difference is that they played well and won it. When you get this far, there are no bad teams."
