Class 5A Quotes

Winning Coach - Frank Lenti: “I told the kids that it was two of the great traditions in (Illinois High School Association) football today and it was a great opportunity for them to be remembered as one of the great teams at Mt. Carmel.”
.
“We weren’t really happy at the half. We told the kids at half not to give up the big play and we challenged our offensive line. We didn’t make any changes in our blocking, we just turned up the effort and execution. In the 2nd half our offe nsive line took over the game.”

“We reviewed the tape of the 1992 semifinal game when they beat us and they were running the same offense today. We wanted to make them go a long way on their drives and keep away from the big play. A lot of credit goes to our defense but yo u have to give credit also to our offensive line because they were able to keep our defense off the field.”

“This group will rank as one of the greatest if not the greatest in Mt. Carmel history. This team started the season by beating Catholic High (Joliet) and ended their season by beating Catholic High. Beating a team twice in one season the ca liber of Catholic High makes you one of the greatest.”

Losing Coach - Bob Stone: “There was no doubt we belonged in this game. After our sixth game we told the kids we had to win the rest of our games to make the playoffs. All of the credit for that goes to the kids, they actually took control a nd played to their potential. It’s been a great seven or eight weeks.”

“Their running game really hurt us. When you are getting 3 or 4 yards on dives each play it keeps the ball out of your offense’s hands.”

“Both teams, I felt, we very even. They had an advantage offensively. I thought defensively we matched up very well.”
