Manager's Comment: Today's anglers fished the sectional event at Shabbona Lake under near-perfect weather conditions. Although cold water temperatures still kept the fish from being fully active, the angers were able to successfully find some fish. Overall, the 24 teams caught a total of 54 bass for 90.75 pounds. Today's big bass was caught by Thomas Woodard from Batavia, and weighed in at a healthy 5 lbs, 9 oz! Thomas' bass helped anchor Batavia's dominant performance as they brought in a limit weighing 15 lbs, 9 oz for 1st Place! Joining Thomas on the Batavia team was Tucker Oakes and Owen Hartman, along with Coach Brian Drendel. This was Batavia's second sectional championship. Coming in 2nd Place was Central High School (Boat #1) from Burlington. This was Central's first year fishing in the IHSA series and they made a strong debut with both boats finishing in the top seven overall. Central weighed in a limit of 8 lbs, with a big bass of 2 lbs, 5 oz. Fishing for Central was Robert Anderson, Trevor Haines, Austin Lee, and Giuseppe Busano. The boat driver was Tim Seyller and team coach is Garret Roberts. Finishing in 3rd Place was Marmion Academy (Boat #1) from Aurora. Marmion weighed in a limit of 7 lbs, with a big (smallmouth) bass of 3 lbs, 1 oz. Fishing for Marmion was Will Cali and Vince Hlavacek. The boat driver was Jeff Cali, and the team is coached by Steve Callahan and Joe Large. Thanks to all for a great event, including the Boondocks Baitshop for their assistance and support in allowing to utilize their facilities for the weigh-in. Looking forward to another great year next year.
