Manager's Note

Last week's excessive rains led to difficult fishing conditions today at Shabbona. While the lake level has returned to normal, the water clarity was still very cloudy. Combined with cold water temperatures ranging from 43 to 53 degrees due to the late spring, these two factors proved very challenging for the 17 boats competing at Shabbona Lake today. Overall, only two bass were caught total with just one meeting the 12 inch minimum. Garrison Govig from Shabbona (Indian Creek) High School landed the winning bass around 11:30am with a white spinnerbait on a main lake weedbed. Garrison's bass measured 15'' in length, and weighed 1.90 lbs. The only other bass was caught by Batavia, but was just short of the 12'' mark. Overall, weather conditions were decent with temperatures ranging from 37 degrees in the morning to 64 degrees in the afternoon, and slightly windy condition (10-15 mph). The teams gave it their best shot, and are looking forward to more stable conditions next spring.
