 Notes & Quotes
Winning coach, George Ushela of Lyons Township High School: ``Let me tell you, Sandburg made some great plays, which made for more drama. It was another great spectator game and another great game to be on the winning side."

``These guys have a plan and they execute it very well. We talk about keeping composure and playing with emotion. We talk about keeping emotional composure as well.”

``There were mistakes on both sides but it was a boxing match out there. It is nice we came out on top.”

“We like to use everything. It is more fun using the long ball but we do small ball as well.”

``I wasn’t worried about overconfidence. I was worried about Sandburg’s skills. I knew that this game wouldn’t be a blowout. Our kids know the task at hand and it is enough to keep them focused on playing our game.”

Losing coach, Doug Sutor of Sandburg High School: ``They (Lyons) are a very good ball club. The kid hit the heck out of the ball. I’m proud of our kids. Lyons is a great ball club. Our kids were confident that we could win. We had pressure trying to defend our state championship."

``It was a heck of a ballgame. It must’ve been fun to watch.”

``You try to locate pitches. Sometimes they hit their spot and sometimes they don’t. When they do, it is a beautiful thing.”

``These are the first errors we’ve made all playoffs. We tell the kids that they are magnified in these situations and today they were.”

``Being at home made it calmer for us. We got to eat home-cooked meals and sleep in our own beds. It was fun to travel last year, but this wasn’t so bad either.”

``I’m very, very proud of our kids. This atmosphere is very exciting. I feel like a kid out there. It is fun. To us, it means the world. I’m awful proud of our kids.”
