 Notes & Quotes
Winning coach, Gary Bender of Rock Island (H.S.): "This being my last time here I've gotta tell ya how my kids played their hearts out. (James) Britton didn't allow them to get ahead and make things happen. We swung the bat as a team. (Brad) Pannell Had a huge day. (J.J. Tubbs) has been a catalyst, our leader, all year long. I'm really proud of these boys."

``I think we are just as good as (St. Charles) and we got our sites set on winning the state title. We'll go with (Bret) Hiner on Monday and he'll be ready.''

Losing coach, Leroy Franklin of Chicago (Simeon): "We just got whipped. To me, we just weren't ready to play. (Justin Turner) has pitched well for us all year but just didn't have it for us today. Teamwise, we just didn't play too well on defense. They have a very good club anddeserve to win today. We had a great season and I'm very proud of these kids. Most of them come back next year."
