IHSA AnnouncementsOctober 2, 2009 Woodward and Conner Reelected to Board, Greg Jones of Sparta New Board MemberVoting for the election of three Illinois High School Association Board of Directors positions closed on Thursday, October 1 and the results were tallied and released on Friday morning. Anna (A.-Jonesboro) Principal Jim Woodward was reelected as the Division 7 representative, while Clinton Principal Ron Conner was reelected to represent Division 5. Sparta High School Principal Greg Jones (Division 7) was elected to the At-Large Minority Board seat. Former Luther South Chicago (Luther South) Principal Anthony Rainey held that seat before stepping down from his position at the high school in August. Woodward and Conner have served as the Board President and Vice President, respectively, since 2005-06. An election within the Board will be held at the Board meeting on October 14 to determine the roles of President and Vice President moving forward. Conner, Jones and Woodward were all elected to three-year terms. IHSA membership schools could nominate Board candidates, including a representative from their own school, beginning on August 13. Nominations were compiled on September 16, with voting lasting from September 17 through Thursday. Woodward, who joined the Board in 2003, became the 33rd IHSA Board President in 2005-06 and the second Anna (A.-Jonesboro) representative to hold the position (Hewey E. Tweedy, 1975-76). Conner has also served on the Board since 2003, while Jones becomes the first representative from Sparta to serve on the IHSA Board.
