| 1924 | First known gymnastics meet between Illinois high schools held (Chicago Public League meet). |
| 1952 | First statewide invitational meet conducted by University of Illinois. |
| 1954 | Long horse (vault) competition introduced. |
| 1956 | All-around competition introduced. |
| 1958 | IHSA takes over sponsorship of state meet. |
| 1969 | Tumbling replaced by free exercise. |
| 1975 | Free exercise replaced by floor exercise. |
| 1978 | Trampoline competition discontinued. |
