Note: Beginning with the 2002-03 state series, schools in the Chicago Public League no longer participate in their own state qualifying meet. They have been assigned to Class A and Class AA regionals with all other member schools entered in the series. Previously, cross country schools not in the Chicago Public League were informed that the assignment of schools to the regionals and correlated sectionals would not be altered for the series in 2001, 2002 and 2003. In general, those assignments have not been altered. A few schools have been moved into a different configuration. That was done in order to accommodate the assignment of Chicago Public League schools into the mix, or to help create a better distribution of schools within a correlated sectional. Originally, the Chicago Public League estimated approximately 18 Class AA schools would be entering the 2002 state series. The actual number is 33. It is the plan to keep these groups of schools in the same regional/sectional for 2002 and 2003 unless there is a demonstrated need to alter the mix.
All schools have entered a team in both the boys and girls state series, unless other indicated.
