*Indicates regional site. Some regional sites have not yet been determined.
NOTE: Baseball and softball pairings this year have a couple of new features. The
super-sectional stage is new, and the teams will be paired this year under the new
"Guidelines for Seeding for Bracketed Team Sports and Activities."
In Class AA, within each sectional complex, the teams ranked 1 through 4 (as ranked by
the coaches in that complex) will be assigned to different fixed regional sites, and the
teams ranked 5 through 8 will be assigned to different fixed regional sites. All the other
teams in the complex will be assigned to regional sites on the basis of geography.
In Class A, because some sectional complexes contain more than 24 teams, each sectional
complex is broken down into two sub-sectionals. Within each sub-sectional, the teams
ranked 1 and 2 (as ranked by the coaches in that sub-sectional) will be assigned to
different fixed regional sites, and the teams ranked 3 and 4 will be assigned to different
fixed regional sites. All the other teams in the sub-sectional will be assigned to
regional sites (within the sub-sectional) on the basis of geography.
Why sub-sectionals? The idea was to keep the number of schools being ranked by
coaches in each seeding meeting to a reasonable number.
