Girls Bowling State Finals To Remain At Cherry Bowl in 2011

The Illinois High School Association Board of Directors approved a recommendation to extend the IHSA Girls Bowling State Final contract at Cherry Bowl Lanes in Rockford for the 2010-11 school term at its regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, August 9, 2010.

The 2011 IHSA Girls Bowling State Finals will mark the 19th time that Cherry Bowl Lanes has served as the event’s host, as the tournament has been held there every year since submitting the winning host bid in 1993. Cherry Bowl Lanes is one of four venues to have ever hosted the girls bowling state tournament, as the inaugural tournament was held in Peoria in 1973 and despite switching venues remained in the city until a one-year stay in Bloomington in 1992.

State final site manager John Anderson, Cherry Bowl Lanes manager Bonnie Harper and former Bowling Proprietors Association President John Sommer have all been instrumental in the success of the tournament at Cherry Bowl Lanes and were honored as IHSA Distinguished Service Award winners in June for their efforts.

“We are excited to continue our relationship with Cherry Bowl Lanes as the IHSA Girls Bowling State Final host,” said IHSA Assistant Executive Director Stacey Lambert. “Generations of girls high school bowlers in this state will always think of Cherry Bowl as the home of the state tournament and we hope that is the case for many more future generations. So many wonderful people have dedicated countless hours and resources into hosting this event for nearly two decades, so we respect their decision to extend the contract for one year and then assess the future of the tournament as the host.”

ACTION ITEMS

  1. The Board approved a recommendation to modify V-B-8 in the Scholastic Bowl Terms & Conditions. The current seed meeting voting structure favors teams that are not present and not allowed to vote. The new system takes the points received by each team (the number 1 seed receives 8 points, 2nd 7, etc.), and then calculates their average points by dividing the teams total points by the number of teams eligible to vote for them. The highest average score would become the number 1 seed in the group.
  2. The Board approved a recommendation to approve the classification cutoffs for the 2010-11 school term. The classification cutoffs are as follows:
