The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Board of Directors met at its regularly scheduled meeting at the IHSA office in Bloomington on Wednesday, January 10, 2018. The Board had no action items, but a recap of the meeting appeals and discussion items are provided below.
APPEALS & HEARINGS
The Board approved a two-year extension of the Football Cooperative agreement between Murphysboro and Elkville (Elverado). The two schools had previously Cooped for football, but Murphysboro’s move from Class 2A to Class 3A basketball put the Coop in conflict with the IHSA Coop By-law 2.030-B. The Board’s extension requires that the schools be in compliance with all Coop By-laws should they seek to extend the Coop beyond 2019.
At each meeting of the Board of Directors, there are certain items the Board discusses, but upon which no action is taken. The following is a report of those items from the January 10, 2018, agenda:
1. The Board heard a report from the Executive Director on the All-State Academic Team deadline, which is February 9, 2018. Nomination forms are currently available for schools in the Schools Center. Click here for more info on the team and process
2. The Board heard a report from the Executive Director on the Let’s Connect Conference that was held in Rosemont, Illinois on January 4-5. Staff members from state associations around the country whose responsibilities include IT, sportsmanship, student services and media relations met to discuss current practices and innovations.
3. The Board heard a report from the Executive Director on the NFHS Winter Meeting held January 3-6, 2018.
4. The Board heard a report from the Executive Director on the newest edition of the NFHS magazine, High School Today
, which features several stories with Illinois ties.
