History was made at the 2017 IHSA Boys Track & Field State Finals on Saturday, May 27, 2017, as Homewood-Flossmoor (above) was crowned the first-ever IHSA Combined Team State Champion in Boys Track & Field, and the second overall in IHSA history following Glenbard West’s 2016 girls track & field team.

Combined team state champions are determined by taking the traditional IHSA state final scoring system and combining it with the points earned by their school’s wheelchair student-athletes.
There are threshold participant numbers that have to be met in each sport in order for the combined championship to be contested, and with nine wheelchair athletes competing at O’Brien Field on the Eastern Illinois University campus in Charleston, Boys Track & Field realized their first combined state championship.

Homewood-Flossmor tallied 35 points to win the state title, while O’Fallon finished second with 29 points, and Waterloo third with 18 points.

The nine student-athletes whose participation helped create history were Seneca's Isaiah Swom, Johnsburg's Angel Martin, Waterloo's Donovan McBride, Champaign Centennial's Jonathan McNamara, O'Fallon's Nathan Rainge, Wauconda's Juan Rodarte, Maine East's Ethan Burkhart, Pana's Tristan Putt, and Homewood-Flossmoor's Aaron Holliday.
