Already the winningest basketball coach in Illinois High School Association (IHSA) history, boys or girls, legendary Marshall High School coach Dorothy Gaters added another milestone to her amazing career when she tallied her 1,000th career victory with an 84-22 victory over Thornwood on November 18, 2014.

Gaters career includes eight state championships and 19 Top 4 finishes. Gaters is the tenth girls’ basketball coach in high school history to win 1,000 career games according to the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), and the fifth to compile all 1,000 victories at one high school.

“It feels really, really great,” Gaters told the Chicago Tribune after the win. “It feels good to get it over with. It was a distraction, but in a good way. It’s a testament to all the young ladies who have come through the program and all the hard work and effort they’ve put in.”
