Okawville High School was named the winner of the third annual IHSA Class 1A/2A Student Section Showdown on Saturday, March 11, 2017.

Representatives from each of the four Class 1A/2A finalists: Carmi-White County, Dwight, Olympia and Okawville (pictured above) – were on hand at the IHSA Class 1A Boys Basketball State Finals at the Peoria Civic Center’s Carver Arena, where the winner was revealed at halftime of the Class 1A Third-Place game.

The Student Section Showdown entries were judged by the IHSA Student Advisory Committee, who graded each submission based on categories that include sportsmanship, spirit, student body participation, and the originality of cheers.

Representing Okawville in the awards presentation on Saturday were students: Jordan Green, Austin Krueger, Drew Riechman, Daniel Savard, Meg Schnoeker, Logan Thoms, Amber Weeke.

The O-Zone had the unique perspective of having its team also playing in the Class 1A title:
