The 2014 IHSA Speech-Individual Events State Finals will be held on Friday and Saturday, February 21-22 at the Peoria Civic Center in Peoria. The 2014 state meet marks the 74th annual edition of the state final and the fifth year that the Peoria Civic Center has hosted the event.
State champions will be crowned in 14 events over the course of the meet, including an overall team champion based upon points earned in each individual event. A top team will also be recognized in the Performance in the Round category, although that event does not earn points toward the overall team title.
The 2013 tournament saw University High School in Normal win its fourth team state title in school history. It was the school's first since winning three in a row from 1972-1974, as Ben Edwards (Prose Reading) and Alison Ogunmokun (Special Occasion Speaking) led the way by winning individual state titles. The Pioneers edged defending state champ Downers Grove South and Humorous Interpretation state champ Natasha Prosek by three points (29-26) to clinch its title.
