Champaign-Urbana News-Gazette 2017 Girls Volleyball All-State Team

The Champaign-Urbana News-Gazette has released its 2017 Girls Volleyball All-State Team, which is the 36th annual season the newspaper has selected an All-State team.

Mother McAuley senior Charley Niego (pictured below) was named the Player of the Year.

The First Team and Second Team are listed below, click the link above or below for the Honorable Mention Team members:

FIRST TEAM
Mica Allison (St. Thomas More Sr. 6-0 S/OPP):
Auburn-bound setter helped Sabers win Class 2A title with 400 assists, 328 kills, 217 digs and 77 blocks

Katie Asche Durand Sr. 6-1 MB
Durand's 35-win season and Class 1A third-place finish was fueled by 332 kills and 100 blocks from Asche

Maggie Bair (Glenbard South Jr. 6-1 MB):
Also a basketball standout, Bair had 356 kills, 205 digs and 112 blocks for Raiders this fall

Holly Bonde (Minooka Sr. 6-2 OPP):
Headed to Kansas State, Bonde put up 265 kills, 215 digs and 129 blocks for the Class 4A runners-up

Louise Comerford (Belleville Althoff Sr. 6-0 S):
Future Miami (Ohio) setter led Crusaders to Class 3A state title with 834 assists, 199 digs and 133 kills

Gylian Finch (Oregon Sr. 5-10 OH):
Hawks' leader is headed to Chattanooga after racking up 422 kills, 369 digs and 80 aces for 32-win team

Anna Hayes (Hartsburg-Emden Jr. 5-11 OH):
Green Bay commit had 544 kills, 241 digs and also led the Stags in both aces and blocks this fall

Catherine Hickey (St. Viator Sr. 5-11 OH):
Hickey will play for D-II Limestone College after putting up 564 kills and 76 aces in 3A state tourney run

Carly Mason Maroa-Forsyth Sr. 6-0 S
Future Belmont setter did it all for 34-4 Trojans with 733 assists, 247 digs, 124 kills and 56 aces

Molly Murrihy (Marist Sr. 6-0 S):
Memphis-bound setter had 1,132 assists, 206 digs, 132 blocks and 130 kills for Class 4A champions

Charley Niego (Mother McAuley Sr. 6-0 OH):
Player of the Year totaled 456 kills, 366 digs, 81 blocks and 42 aces before heading to Notre Dame

Allison Papesh (Minooka Sr. 6-1 OH):
Dayton is next up for Papesh after she helped Minooka go 39-3 with 355 kills, 208 digs and 75 blocks

Rocky Perinar (Minooka Sr. 6-0 OH):
Third D-I hitter for Indians is Tennessee-bound after 351 kills, 230 digs and 90 blocks in final season

Brittany Robinson (Limestone Sr. 6-2 OH):
Butler-bound outside hitter had 512 kills, 271 digs, 40 blocks and 33 aces for 34-1 Rockets

Megan Schlecte (Windsor/Stew-Stras. Jr. 5-10 OH):
Junior helped Hatchets back to Class 1A state tourney with 525 kills, 323 digs, 51 aces and 43 blocks

Josie Stanford (Payson-Seymour Sr. 6-0 MB):
Headed to Arkansas State, Stanford had 409 kills, 146 digs and 68 aces for 41-1 Class 1A state champs

Hannah Thompson (Pekin Sr. 5-8 OH):
Staying close to home at Bradley, Thompson led the Dragons with 523 kills, 329 digs and 46 blocks

Savannah Thompson (Marist Sr. 5-11 OH):
Bound for Central Michigan, Thompson had 403 kills, 307 digs and 36 aces for the 4A state title winners


SECOND TEAM
Brooke Amann (Woodstock North So. 5-11 OH):
One of the top sophomores in the state, Amann finished season with 404 kills, 284 digs and 55 aces

Karly Bruntjen (Lincolnwood Sr. 5-8 OH):
Bruntjen was prolific at the pin with 417 kills, in the back row with 349 digs and serving with 34 aces

Hannah Clayton (Tri-Valley Sr. 6-2 MB):
Iowa-bound middle blocker was a force at the net for the 28-6 Vikings with 249 kills and 152 blocks

Grace Cleveland (Normal Sr. 6-3 MB):
Wisconsin transplant is headed to Purdue after putting up 356 kills, 198 digs and 77 blocks for Iron

Morgan Dodd (Marion Sr. 5-3 L):
Dodd's fall included signing with Murray State to play softball and totaling 640 digs for 31-5 Wildcats

Abby Frohning (Newton Sr. 5-8 S/OPP):
Frohning's 393 kills, 299 assists and 224 digs helped carry Eagles to Class 2A third-place finish

Grace Green (Marist Sr. 5-8 L):
Radford-bound back row standout had 547 digs, 102 assists and 61 aces for Class 4A state champs

Sydney Hummert (Quincy Notre Dame So. 5-9 OH):
Raiders finished second in Class 2A behind Hummert's 376 kills, 324 digs, 74 blocks and 38 aces

Nancy Kane (Mother McAuley Jr. 5-11 S):
One of few experienced players for Mighty Macs put up 833 assists, 284 digs, 68 blocks and 45 aces

Brittney Litton (Wethersfield Jr. 5-8 MB):
Flying Geese went 35-1 behind 414 kills, 191 digs, 63 aces and 54 blocks from do-it-all junior

Madi Malone (Newark Fr. 5-11 OH):
Lady Norsemen's fourth-place state finish was fueled by freshman's 468 kills, 284 digs and 60 aces

Savannah Matthews (Mahomet-Seymour Jr. 5-11 OH):
Future Kent State Golden Flash was a six-rotation threat with 392 kills and 350 digs for Bulldogs

Maddie Misner (Carbondale Jr. 5-11 OH):
Terriers' outside hitter was one of top players in southern Illinois with 476 kills, 322 digs and 65 aces

Rachel Pranger (Edwardsville Sr. 6-0 OH):
Repeat all-stater had 333 kills, 311 digs, 51 blocks and 27 aces to lead Tigers during 32-6 season

Sarah Schank (Naperville Central Sr. 5-9 OH):
Go-to hitter for the Redhawks provided all-around production with 405 kills, 201 digs and 62 aces

Zoey Seput (Minooka So. 5-7 S):
Only sophomore for 4A state champs fueled attack with 921 assists to go with 169 digs and 28 aces

Brooke Stepter (Massac County Jr. 5-7 L):
The Patriots went 30-8 and won a regional title with Stepter anchoring the defense with 660 digs plus 62 aces

Mackenzie Tabbert (Windsor/Stew-Stras Jr. 5-6 S):
Moved from outside hitter last season and finished season with 907 assists, 235 digs and 92 kills
