Champaign-Urbana News-Gazette 2016 Girls Volleyball All-State Team

The Champaign-Urbana News-Gazette has released its 2016 Girls Volleyball All-State Team, which is the 35th annual season the newspaper has selected an All-State team.

Mother McAuley senior Charley Niego (pictured below) was named the Player of the Year.

FIRST TEAM
Brooke Bachmann Minooka Sr. 5-10 S
Setter had several strong hitters, totaling 993 assists to go with 180 digs, 26 aces.

Clare Delaplane Downers Grove North Jr. 6-1 OH
Villanova commit had 437 kills, 229 digs, 52 blocks and 34 aces for 20-17 Trojans.

Makenzie Fink Lanark Eastland Sr. 6-1 OH
Future Northwestern College athlete’s 676 kills ranked third all time in IHSA history.

Maddie Holt Bloomington Central Catholic Sr. 5-9 S
Headed to Wake Forest after 980 assists, 203 digs for Class 3A fourth-place team.

Nancy Kane Mother McAuley So. 5-11 S
Underclassman helped Mighty Macs to Class 4A title with 985 assists.

Alyssa Kronberg Palatine Sr. 5-7 L
Memphis-bound specialist was an elite passer and had 601 digs and 32 aces.

Grace Loberg Geneva Sr. 6-2 OH
Wisconsin signee and No. 19 national recruit had 374 kills and 241 digs.

Kaylee Martin Sterling Sr. 5-9 OH
Northern Illinois bound after racking up 587 kills and 300 digs for 33-6 Warriors.

Kolby McClelland Augusta Southeastern Sr. 5-11 MB
Murray State signee was a force for the Suns with 534 kills, 204 digs and 84 blocks.

Kylie Michael St. Joseph-Ogden Sr. 5-11 OH
Future Eastern Illinois athlete totaled 397 kills, 340 digs for Class 2A runners-up.

Sara Nielsen Benet Academy Sr. 6-0 S
Minnesota signee, No. 69 national recruit totaled 1,034 assists, 32 aces.

Morgan O’Brien Libertyville Sr. 5-6 L
Illinois commit and repeat first-teamer had 637 digs to set school career record.

Jori Radtke Stevenson Sr. 5-11 OH
Martin’s future teammate at NIU finished with 553 kills, 253 digs, 68 aces.

Wisconsin signee, No. 8 national recruit capped career with 516 kills, 247 digs.

Ashley Shook Plainfield Central Sr. 6-2 S
Texas signee and No. 6 national recruit had 547 assists, 207 kills and 204 digs.

McKayla Wuensch Marian Central Catholic Sr. 5-10 S
Nevada-bound setter led team to Class 3A title with 877 assists, 207 digs, 109 kills.

Cougars were 1A runners-up with Beyers racking up 840 assists, 261 kills, 249 digs.

Central Michigan signee finished senior season with 723 assists, 322 digs, 135 kills.

Claire Chaplinsky Palatine Sr. 6-0 OH
Rhode Island-bound athlete led Pirates to regional title with 405 kills, 259 digs.

Ally Dion Huntley Sr. 5-9 OH
SEMO recruit led the Red Raiders with 414 kills, 384 digs and 132 aces.

Colene Hamilton Columbia Sr. 5-9 OH
Eagles leader with 348 kills, 309 digs will play sand volleyball at Central Arkansas.

Katie Kidwell Watseka Sr. 6-0 MB
Dominant force with 378 kills and 97 blocks headed to Bowling Green.

Kera Kiner Sparta Sr. 6-1 MB
Few were able to stop the Bulldogs leader (328 kills) or hit past her (122 blocks).

RedHawks senior tough to stop with 387 kills to go with 232 digs, 57 blocks.

Uncommitted but with D-I looks, Mules’ defensive leader had 680 digs, 37 aces.

Dayton commit had strong season with 417 kills, 276 digs, 95 blocks, 45 aces.

Rachel Pranger Edwardsville Jr. 6-0 OH
Could end up playing D-I volleyball or basketball and had 438 kills, 267 digs.

Appalachian State signee had 35 aces, led defense for 4A champs with 537 digs.

Erin Ripple Mount Zion Sr. 6-0 OPP
Six-rotation hitter bound for Illinois-Springfield after 399 kills, 201 digs, 41 blocks.

Brittany Robinson Limestone Jr. 6-1 OH
Butler commit racked up 422 kills, 233 digs, 36 aces, 31 blocks for 23-11 Rockets.

Mikayla Robinson Elgin Harvest Christian Acad. Sr. 6-1 OH
Likely in middle at South Carolina but still had 415 kills, 93 blocks this season.

Lauren Rokey Eureka Sr. 6-0 OH
Morehead State signee led Hornets to 2A state title after posting 400 kills, 257 digs.

Becca Schlechte Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Sr. 5-10 S
IUPUI signee had 851 assists, 322 digs, 135 kills and led Hatchets to 1A third place.

Alana Walker Whitney Young Sr. 6-3 MB/RS
Northwestern commit racked up 401 kills, 199 digs, 79 blocks, 24 aces for Dolphins.
