The 2018 IHSA Girls Bowling State Finals take center stage at The Cherry Bowl in Rockford on Friday and Saturday, February 16-17.

The IHSA’s Wheelchair Division will feature four competitors this season in Elk Grove Village sophomore Sonia Sanchez-Corrillo, Masocutah freshman Olivia Moyer, Sandburg senior Sophia Jablonski and Triad sophomore Chenoa Stokes. Jablonski and Stokes competed in the inaugural meet last year, with Jablonski winning the state title.

Defending state champion Harlem welcomes back a wealth of talent, including three bowlers who placed in the Top 12 in the state a year ago. That group is led by junior Kayla Verstraete (5th in 2017 with 2,609) and junior Rebecca Hagerman (10th, 2,533), while senior Treasure Childs emerged to win the individual Sectional title (1,377) last week.

Harlem needed nearly every pin to win its sixth state title thanks to runner-up Lockport, who pushed the champs until the very end, ultimately finishing just 38 pins behind (12,310 to 12,272) last year. Senior Baily Delrose is back after leading the Porters at state last year (7th, 2,597) and enters with the momentum of an individual (1,396) and team Sectional title last week.

O’Fallon could have entered with tempered expectations a year ago when its entire state roster was made up of freshman and sophomores, but the young group responded and just missed a trophy, placing fourth. Sophomore Natalie Heltne was 21st (2,479) in 2017, while Mary Orf (1,316) led the team at Sectionals en route to the second-best team Sectional score (6,193) in the state on Saturday.

Perennial power Hoffman Estates was fifth last year, its best finish since placing third in 2013, and returns three bowlers who rolled 2,201 or better at state last season. That group includes junior Alexis Orwat, who led the team at Sectionals (1,279) last week en route to the team crown.

Lincoln-Way West wasn’t a part of the state final field a year ago, but the Warriors are team that must be respected this weekend based on their Sectional score of 6,016, which was third-best in the state. Sophomore Mackenzie Ullian posted the state's second-best individual Sectional score (1,403) and now hopes to lead West to becoming the first Lincoln-Way school to win a state trophy in girls bowling.

Willowbrook rounded out this year’s group of Sectional team champions (5,735). Led by junior Holly Helsper’s 1,232, the Warriors hope to break new ground this weekend, as the program has never made it to Saturday’s final round at the state tourney.

Freeport has four consecutive Top 10 team finishes, including placing second in 2016, and was one of eight programs in Sectional action to knock down 5,900 pins or more. The Pretzels feature senior Madison Wallace, who placed in the Top 30 a year ago (26th, 2,448).

Sycamore and Minooka (10th in 2017) are two programs that have multiple Top 10 finishes in their history and appear to both have trophy potential in 2018. The two programs just missed the 6,000 pinfall threshold at Sectionals, as they finished fourth and fifth in the state scoring. Sycamore (5,999) was paced by sophomore Megan Kolberg (1,375), while junior Gina Russell (1,262) led Minooka (5,995).

Two individual Sectional winners, Belleville East sophomore Abby Gray (1,329) and Schaumburg junior Kylie Frick (1,327) both used their performances to help guide their teams to state this weekend, while two other individual Sectional medalists, Yorkville junior Katie Orisek (1,415, best in state) and Kenwood junior Kaia Gray (1,242), qualified as individuals.

Harrisburg senior Elizabeth Davis (13th, 2,520), Oswego East senior Kiana Krahulik (18th, 2,497) and Sandburg senior Emily Schrader (25th, 2,464) are all names to watch for on the individual leaderboard after they each posted Top 25 performance a year ago.
