Glenbard West & NFL Alum Matt Bowen on why high school students should play multiple sports

Matt Bowen, a current NFL analyst for a variety of national publications (including Bleacher Report, Chicago Tribune, 670 The Score), recently made the post below on Facebook regarding specialization among high school athletes. Bowen is a graduate of Glenbard West High School, where he was a three-sport athlete (football, basketball, baseball) before embarking on a seven-year NFL career.

Bowen’s words and post are below (follow him for more at @MattBowen41):

“244 of the 256 ‪#‎NFL‬ Draft picks were multi-sport athletes in high school...Kids, parents & coaches need to recognize that "specialization" in sports doesn't equal long-term success. Instead, it takes away opportunities. Kids should play everything, compete, practice different movements & learn from different voices.”
